We need to break away from the Industrial-Age psychology that labels people as expenses and cell phones as assets. Jobs should cater to our interests. Instead of telling people what they’re hired to do, we should ask them what they love to do. Then create a marriage between that passion and your needs.
Stephen Covey: Value People as Assets.

Jim,
Another gem from your blog. I am a fan of Covey too. I have long wondered when we will stop considering people as “resources”. What an excellent leadership tip. When people think they are seen as nothing more than a “human resource” it hardly inspires loyalty or commitment to a company or a leader. I would abolish all “HR” departments and return to the concept of “Personnel” or someting more human.
After all people – humans – are our customers, our employees and our leaders. They are all unique and potentially creative. Iron and electricity are resources – people are not.
